Anyone who knows me, knows I am a huge lover of French fries. So, when I heard from several people that Sedona had a specialty of “Cactus fries”, I had to try them.

We were recommended to the Cowboy Club, a dual restaurant consisting of the casual family friendly eatery side by side with a more upscale version.

Definitely a bit of a hokey tourist restaurant, complete with a rattlesnake skin hung on the wall.

Intrigued by the buffalo brochettes and green chile rattlesnake meatballs, I ordered the appetizer sampler, which included cactus fries.

I think I’ll be sticking with regular potato fries – the cactus variety didn’t quite do it for me. The fries are strips of cactus, battered and fried. Not much else to describe – they’re limp, watery, and rather tasteless.

The buffalo brochettes were actually very good, though! And the cilantro flatbread that came with the spread was fantastic. I could eat a whole plate of just that, and almost stole Cory’s portion.

So, good effort, Cowboy Club, but not a fan!
